results the degree of systolic compression was found to be correlated with the depth of the mb. however, there was no correlation between the length of the mb and the degree of systolic compression. conclusion the systolic compression of the mb was influenced by the depth of the tunneled segment, not by its length. background myocardial bridging (mb) is a congenital anomaly in which a segment of a major epicardial coronary artery courses through the myocardium. this anomaly can lead to myocardial ischemia, arrhythmia, and even death. the effectiveness of coronary computed tomographic angiography (ccta) in the detection of mb and its morphological features, and the accuracy of invasive coronary angiography (ica) in the evaluation of systolic compression have been shown in some prior studies. objectives the present study aimed to evaluate the correlation between the depth and the length of mb as determined using ccta, and the degree of luminal narrowing of the involved tunneled segment as calculated using the ica. patients and methods for this study, 109 consecutive patients diagnosed with myocardial bridging using ccta, and who had already undergone ica, were studied. the depth and length of the mb was determined in the ccta, while the degree of systolic compression was calculated in the ica. the correlation between the depth and length of the mb and the systolic compression were then evaluated.

BACKGROUND Myocardial bridging (MB) is a congenital anomaly in which a segment of a major epicardial coronary artery courses through the myocardium. This anomaly can lead to myocardial ischemia, arrhythmia, and even death. Can coronary computed tomography angiography replace invasive angiography? Coronary computed tomography angiography cannot replace invasive angiography.

O ne million patients undergo invasive coronary angiogra-phy (CA) in the United States every year. 1 In view of its invasive nature and related costs, noninvasive imaging of coronary imaging has the theoretical appeal to improve comfort for patients, reduce cost, and refine patient selection to limit invasive procedures to patients requiring treatment for ischemic coronary artery disease (CAD)....

Computed tomography coronary angiography in patients with acute myocardial infarction and normal invasive coronary angiography

BACKGROUND Three to five percent of patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) have normal coronary arteries on invasive coronary angiography (ICA). The aim of this study was to assess the presence and characteristics of atherosclerotic plaques on computed tomography coronary angiography (CTCA) and describe the clinical characteristics of this group of patients. METHODS This was a multic...

Frequency of myocardial bridges and dynamic compression of epicardial coronary arteries: a comparison between computed tomography and invasive coronary angiography.

BACKGROUND The objective of the present study was to describe the relative frequency of myocardial bridging and dynamic compression of the coronary arteries as assessed by CT angiography and conventional angiography. METHODS AND RESULTS A total of 311 patients (208 men, 103 women; mean age 63 years) who received both 64-section CT angiography and conventional angiography were reviewed retrosp...
